Recent research shows that the standard equipment earplugs provided to our the military serving in Afghanistan and Iraq are likely to have caused hearing loss or tinnitus. There is currently litigation pending against the manufacturers of the products (3M and Aero Technologies).
3M and its predecessor, Aearo Technologies, manufactured the defective earplugs for the United States from 2003 to 2015. The earplugs were a standard issue for all branches, and the wearers were often, exposed to noise levels over 100 decibels (dB) while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
3M and Aearo Technologies had prior knowledge that the earplugs could loosen in a person’s ear canal and fail to offer protection to the wearer hearing. Despite this, they failed to warn users of this defect and continued to sell the product to the U.S. government. As a result, tens of thousands of veterans have suffered needless hearing loss and tinnitus due to defective 3M Combat Arms Earplugs, Version 2 (CAEv2).
If you served in the military between the years 2003 – 2015, you were likley issued 3M Combat Arms earplugs (CAEv2). Any veteran who served during that period and was subsequently diagnosed with hearing loss or tinnitus should immediately contact our firm. Your hearing loss was likely due to these defective ear plugs, and your potential claim against 3M should be investigated.
3M recently settled a class-action lawsuit filed by the U.S. government for $9.1 million. It was determined that the company knowingly sold defective earplugs to the U.S. military. These earplugs were prone to loosening, which reduced their ability to protect the wearer from loud noise, including gunfire, explosives, and aircraft engines.
The litigation involving individuals who suffered the actual hearing loss is still ongoing, and it might not be too late for you to participate. If you or someone you know has experienced permanent hearing loss from working with 3M ear buds, it’s important that you contact an attorney before it is too late to protect your legal rights.
